Does Granny's Christmas Closet make a difference?
It sure does to the seniors who receive your gift!
Here are just a few of the Angel Stories we've heard.

     On behalf of Anoka County Social Service and Public Health staff and clients, we would like to thank Granny's Christmas Closet for all of the wonderful holiday gifts for our older adult clients this holiday season. Your continued commitment and contribution to this special population through Granny's Christmas Closet is immeasurable. We continue to be amazed by the generosity your program semonstrates. We are so thankful for all of the Christmas Angels out there!

     The seniors we serve are also thankful for the gifts. I had a phone message forwarded to me that was left by a senior to her worker. She was overwhelmed by the gifts her angel gave her. "I didn't expect so much - three big packages! My cats will have food and liter to last for three months." Her cats are her companions. "I can't believe I got Rainbow gift cards, and all the household cleaning items - this helps so much. I didn't know I'd get all that. Oh my!" At this points she started crying. She repeatedly said thank you. She is on a [very] limited income and is so grateful for receiving these basic items that most people would thing nothing of. What a moving tribute to your program.

Dear Sercret Person.
I want to thank you so much for the Cub $50 gift certificate. It is so welcome I cannot thank you enough. It's nice to think there are nice people around who would do such things secretly and not tell who they are. Once again, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Dear Granny's donor,
Thank you so much for all the wonderful gifts for Sharon. I had the opportunity to watch her open them and she oohed and ahhed after she opened each item. It was as if you knew her. The gifts were perfect and much appreciated! Thanks for your generosity.

More Stories from Previous Years

A gentleman was in his apartment when he requested his Christmas clothing item. Due to health conditions, he was moved to a nursing home. When his social worker delivered his Christmas gift, she found him "under a blanket in bed."  He was depressed. She coaxed him to sit on the side of the bed and open his gift. It was a beautiful sweater. He was delighted that someone remembered him and that the sweater was so "nice" and "fit so well."  Now he sits in his chair every day, wearing his sweater.  Your gift warmed him body and soul.

A lady who had lost over 75 pounds, used safety pins on her old clothing so it wouldn't fall off. Your gift of new clothing made her feel like a "movie star!"

A man received a new shaver from you. After using it all he said was "smooth."

A woman didn't have a winter coat, so she was stuck indoors. With your gift of a new winter coat, she is now able to "go on outings."  Your gift brought her freedom.

A couple requested enough gas certificates to drive to South Dakota to visit family last year. You provided gas certificates and a basket full of snacks. The senior couple had a wonderful visit. This year, the lady wanted to thank you again and let you know how important the trip was to them. You see, her husband can no longer drive and they had to give up their car. Your gift let them say "good bye."

My Christmas Angel & My Secret Friend;
How does one say "Thank you" when I know not my friend? It is like being a child again and wondering and wondering! Who could be so kind to me? I was so surprised to receive a thoughtful array of wonderful choices. Thank you so much. Not only for the gifts - but to still find the mystery of Christmas - and to know you have a wonderful friend in your life.
